Everyone is missing the point in terms of why Heupel decided this. It's not just about the NIL money being ridiculous. It's about the fact that Nico became the first ever college football holdout. And something you NEVER see with QBs (except the idiot Jamarcus Russell who was a flop), because the QB is supposed to be a LEADER. Nico decided he was not only bigger than the fanbase (who has supported him) and the University (who paid him)... He also decided he was bigger than his team. He abandoned his teammates. That shows you EXACTLY who he is. You do NOT want that on a team.
So yes him asking to DOUBLE his money after a mediocre at best year is crazy. But what really caused this to happen is the fact that he abandoned his teammates. So absolutely Heupel made the 100% correct decision.

The problem is people think they own you so they can throw some money to force you to make a decision. This young man said no I am worth more, so he is right. Tennessee did an evaluation and said he is not worth that or we are not going to pay that, and they are right as well. We will never know what decision was the best until he get on the field and prove it. He is not the only QB that a university has paid bid money to.
